RM700m tower proposed for Penang

BY NG SU-ANN

PENANG: A proposal has been made to build a RM700mil “smart tower” like the Kuala Lumpur Tower on Pondok Upeh Hill in Balik Pulau here.

Balik Pulau MP Datuk Dr Hilmi Yahaya said it would house the world's first revolving hotel, a revolving restaurant, meeting rooms and telecommunication facilities.

“The proposal was submitted to the state early this year by a group of local and foreign investors.

“I hope the state will consider it as soon as possible,” he told reporters after opening the Koperasi Pelancongan Pulau Pinang Berhad's (Kopel) annual general meeting at the P. Ramlee House yesterday.

Dr Hilmi, who is also the Finance Ministry parliamentary secretary, said to avoid cutting trees to make a road up the hill, the proposed cable car system linking Penang Hill and Teluk Bahang should also be linked to the tower.

He also urged the state to make the system more comprehensive by providing links to Balik Pulau and Relau, instead of merely between Penang Hill and Teluk Bahang.

New Year, New Town all geared for Election 2008!

Hope it's not too late to wish Gong Xi Fa Cai to all.... After all, the houses in my neighborhood are still well lit and decorated with the 'bling-bling' and tanglongs etc.

It's was a long holiday, and things will get busy here in Balik Pulau as the election is about to be held within 30 days from now... (the banners are already on the this road section since last week, but will about to be full with colourful ones not too long from today):

Balik Pulau has been a traditional Barisan National stronghold for decades, but Keadilan and PAS have always been active all these years with speaking events at various town and village venues, so, it'll be a fierce fight in 'lik lau as well as in overall Penang -- with DAP comeback-to-Penang campaign will also put a major battle with BN parties of Gerakan, MCA and Umno put some major showdown.
